Installing a playtest build
Builds are shared in our Discord while we wait for Steam. Each one is named after its platform and version, like Mystified_windows_v0.1.0.exe.
- Windows — run the
.exe. The build isn't code-signed yet, so SmartScreen warns once: choose More info → Run anyway. - macOS — unzip, then right-click Mystified.app → Open the first time (or run
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine Mystified.app). - Linux — make the file executable first (
chmod +x Mystified_linux_v0.1.0.x86_64), then run it.
Your first run
- Pick New Game and a save slot (there are ten).
- Create your wizard — or just press Begin to play as Waldo — then choose a difficulty. Normal is the intended experience; Hard and Nightmare hit harder and pay out better loot.
- In the Sanctum, talk to Penny. She walks you through moving, fighting, spellcrafting and the reshuffle, with live demos.
- Step through a gate into the world. When you fall, the world rebuilds itself and you wake up back in the Sanctum — keeping your elements and gear.
System requirements
Mystified uses a lightweight renderer: any 64-bit PC or Mac from the last decade with OpenGL 3.3-capable graphics should run it comfortably. A controller is optional.
